Located in Kitsap County, Washington right on the Kitsap Peninsula, Silverdale sits only ten miles northwest of Bremerton and 9 miles south of Poulsbo. Silverdale consists of 7.9 square miles, 6.9 square miles of which is land. Silverdale real estate boasts much of the natural beauty that the state of Washington is known for, from the idyllic woods and wildlife, to its proximity to the Pacific – making Silverdale real estate the perfect home for lovers of nature. According to the 2010 census, the town of Silverdale contains a modest population of 19,204 citizens, although this is a 21.4 percent jump in size from the previous decade.

Shopping and Dining

Silverdale may be a smaller town, but that does not mean it is lacking in shops or restaurants. In fact, owners of Silverdale real estate have a wide variety of both shops and restaurants to choose from. Anyone looking to get some shopping done can do it all in one spot at the Kitsap Mall. Some of the more prominent stores in the mall include Kohl's, Macy's and Bath & Body Works. If shopping works up an appetite, Hale's Ale House at the Kitsap Mall's boasts Silverdale's best happy hour. The mall also has a complete food court with a variety of options. Other dining options in Silverdale include a number familiar brands such as Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Red Robin, but also include local favorites such as Green Garden Pho, Monica's Waterfront Bakery & Café, Fujiyama Japanese Steak House & Bar, Silver City Restaurant & Brewery, Hakata Japanese Restaurant and Taqueria El Huarache. There are plenty of locally owned shops to peruse as well, including Lisa Stirrett Glass Art Studio and Silverdale Cyclery to name a few. Silverdale also has the only Costco warehouse in Kitsap County. The warehouse has a gas station, pharmacy, optical and hearing aid departments, food court and tire service center.

Parks and Recreation

A key benefit of living in Silverdale and the Puget Sound area is the surrounding greenery and an abundance of parks to explore. Some of the parks in or around the Silverdale area include the Silverdale Rotary Gateway Park, Snyder Park, Wynn-Jones Park, Harper Park, Old Mill Park, Silverdale Waterfront Park and many more. These parks are excellent spots to go on a hike, especially considering the many hiking trails that are available for use. Additionally, there are a number of athletic facilities that can be used, including the nearby Edgewater Soccer & Ballfields, the Kingston Tennis courts, the B. Johnson Skate Park, the Suquamish Sports Court, and the Village Greens Golf Course & Rotary Park. All of these locations are within the Kitsap County boundaries, making them easy for owners of Silverdale real estate to reach. And this is without mentioning the nearby beaches and the Sound, where residents can enjoy any number of outdoor activities.

Silverdale is also home of the Haselwood Family YMCA, one of the newest facilities of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. The Haselwood Family YMCA branch has a variety of ammonites including a lap pool, gymnasium, climbing wall, fitness center, racquetball courts, teen center and child care. Haselwood Family also hosts a variety of classes, camps and sports leagues.


According to the 2010 census, there were 5,867 households among the Silverdale population with a population density of 2,277.9 people per square mile. Residents living on Silverdale real estate will find plenty of employment opportunities in the Silverdale area, especially when considering its strong retail presence. As of October 2013, the Bremerton-Silverdale area boasted a total employment of roughly 108,000, with an unemployment rate of only 6.3 percent, which is quite respectable when compared to the 7.3 percent unemployment rate of the entire country. The bulk of the area’s employment opportunities come in the form of government jobs as well as jobs in the trade, transportation, and utilities sector. Schools, Health and Transportation

There are an estimated 11,000 students enrolled in the Central Kitsap School District, which consists of kindergarten through the 12th grade. There are 2 high schools, 1 secondary school, 3 junior high schools, 12 elementary schools and a home-school support program in place. The graduation rate in 2010 was 89.4 percent, which was well ahead of the 72 percent graduation rate of the rest of the state.

The Kitsap County area has a number of hospitals available to residents. These include Central Kitsap Urgent Care, Harrison Medical Center, Mary Bridge Pediatrics, and Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics. There are also several excellent emergency care centers and medical centers in nearby Bremerton. There are also a number of family practices available, from orthopedists to optometrists.

When it comes to transportation, Kitsap County provides a number of options. These include the routed bus service, the ferry, and a SCOOT service, which allows residents to reserve and pick up a car for personal errands. The area is also very bike-friendly and provides residents with locations for bike rentals and storage, as well as bike racks on the buses.
